How to Switch Your Pet’s Food Safely: A 7-Day Plan
Moving to a new food, a new brand, or from kitten or puppy food to adult food? Do it slowly. A sudden change can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, or a pet that simply refuses to eat.
The 7-day plan

Keep the total daily amount the same while you mix. From day 7, follow the feeding guide on the new bag.
Tips for a smooth switch
- Mix the two foods well so your pet can’t pick out the old one.
- If stools get soft, stay on the current step for 2–3 more days before moving on.
- Pets with a sensitive stomach may need 10 to 14 days instead of 7.
- Avoid switching during stressful times, such as travel or moving house.
- Switching wet food? Use the same plan.
When is it time for adult food?

When to call the vet: vomiting or diarrhoea that lasts more than a day, blood in the stool, a pet that seems weak or very tired, or a cat that eats nothing for more than 24 hours. Cats can become seriously ill when they stop eating, so don’t wait.
